Immediate Implant
Immediate implant placement is a modern implantology technique that allows for the installation of a dental implant at the same time as the extraction of the affected tooth. In many cases, it is also possible to place a temporary prosthesis in a short period, reducing the time without teeth and providing greater aesthetic and functional comfort to the patient.
Is the prosthesis placed immediately after surgery?
In selected cases, yes.
When we talk about complete dentures, they are usually installed between 3 and 4 days after surgery, while healing begins. In partial dentures, the patient often doesn’t go a single day without a tooth, receiving an immediate temporary prosthesis.
These initial prostheses are, in most cases, temporary, being replaced after a few months by permanent and non-permanent prostheses, when the implant is already completely integrated into the bone.
Is immediate implant indicated for all cases?
No. The indication depends on factors such as:
- Quality and quantity of bone
- Control of active infection at the site
- Patient’s general health conditions
- Careful planning by the dentist
Therefore, a detailed clinical evaluation and imaging exams are fundamental to ensure safety and predictability in treatment.
Safety and predictability
When properly indicated and performed by a qualified professional, immediate implant placement has high success rates, similar to those of conventional implants performed after bone healing.
