Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last molars on each side of the upper and lower jaws. They are also the last teeth to emerge, typically between the ages of 16 and 20.

Since wisdom teeth are the last permanent teeth to appear, there is often insufficient space in the mouth to accommodate them. This can cause wisdom teeth to become impacted - teeth that are trapped beneath the gum tissue by other teeth or bone, potentially leading to swelling or pain.

Wisdom teeth that erupt only partially or emerge in an improper position can also cause crowding and other issues.

Because teeth before the age of 20 have roots that are less developed, they pose fewer complications when removed. Therefore, it is recommended that individuals between the ages of 16 and 19 have their wisdom teeth examined to determine if extraction is necessary.
